Why me Lord. What have I ever done to deserve even one.

A Visit From the Thornton Grandchildren

August 16, 2008

.....It was my pleasure to have my Uncle Gilbert and Dorie King Thornton's grandchildren vist me at Caldwell. My only regret is that the visit was so short and that I was to busy running my mouth to be a good host and even offer coffee. This was the first time we had met, but I hope that it is not the last time that we will be able to get together.

.....My first cousin Eva Smith's daughters Elva and Goldie and first cousin Dolly's daughters Linda and Doris came. And, I also had the pleasure of having Goldie's husband George Young among my company as well.
.....When I was young, we called out visiters "company." Well, When Doris called and said that they were coming, I knew that we were going to have company. It was like the old song, "Company's Comin." Well, although my wife had to work and missed the fun, my dogs and I were happy to see company coming. We do not have a lot of company. So, neither my dogs nor I know how to act properly. My dogs made quite a fuss becuase they were so excited.

.....
....I did get his name wrong. The little feller is Mr. Hayden James Saffell. He is Doris' grandson. Doris is Doris Ann Meeker Newman. She is getting wrapped up in geaneolgy like I am and wanted to pick my brain over a few things. Since that is a tough thing to do, I promised her I would send her some files.

.............

......This Elva and Goldie. Elva just lives down in Virginia. I was sad to learn that their sister Leona is gravely ill in the hospital. ..................

.....These are Dolly's daughter's Linda Young and Doris Newman. If I am not mistaken, their sidter-in-law passed away not too long ago form breats cancer, and Linda has been working in the promotion of prevention and research of cancer. .....................................

.....This is Goldie Smith Young and her husband George. They live in Florida. The interesting thing is that George is my Uncle Roy King's wife's son. Roy worked for years for George's parents at their hunting and fishing camp. When George's father passed away. Uncle Roy married George's mother. When I was a Kid, I was always happy to see Roy coming.

.....It was a total joy to have my cousins visit. There have been so many cousins that I have not been able to meet while they were on this side of the river. God bless You all.
